What is a painting?
The simplest definition would be that it is an attempt to transcribe a 3-dimensional object on a 2-dimensional space - yet giving the result the impression of being 3-dimensional. The world is 3-dimensional and painting is a 2-dimensional make-believe of that world.
Therefore, it is not an entirely scientific process. In fact, the "art" of transferring objects in space to paper is truly an art. No doubt, some amount of artistic skill would be involved, but a much larger dose of imagination, observation, and improvisation would be necessary for an artist to succeed in creating the illusion.
I started painting when I was 71 and before that, I had never touched paint to paper. All I had was a God-given talent to sketch. That gives hope, isn't it?
About my website and why it is made the way it is.
My website www.satcal.co.in is about "sat cal" (pronounced as sat kaal) meaning good times. You always associate celebrations and gifting with good times. So I have dedicated the website to gifts or "tohfaa" in Hindi.
Many of us will recall that the best gifts that we had received in our lives were memorable because the person who gave the gift truly cared for us, selected the gift very thoughtfully - why perhaps, even made it personally with his or her own hands. Well, this website may be considered as an answer to the question "What if I don't have the skill to create a gift for a special one?" You can select something that resonates with the person to whom you intend to gift from out of the available options on the website. There are 11 categories to choose from. Or you can even ask me to make something very personal for your loved one - you need to give inputs and I will come up with a visual imagery - and it won't cost you a fortune. I have a mission to make art affordable.
Please explore the website and tell me what you like and what can be improved.
