How do you define creativity? I believe that it is an attitude or habit that allows you to adapt to changing circumstances. Since change is inevitable, the only p[eople who can adapt to it are the ones who habitually think of alternatives to reach a goal. Interestingly, it is creative people who report greater satisfaction and self-worth in their lives.
So how do we know if we are creative?
The following is typical of creative people.
They routinely seek out novel experiences
When up against a wall, they dont get frustrated, but instead seek alternatives
They are more accepting of situations that shake them from their comfort zones
They evince a playful attitude toward learning new things
They intuitively look for ways to connect the dots between seemingly different perspectives and thoughts.
Why did I talk about creativity in this blog on painting? If you analyse the process of painting, you will realise that you can tick all the above boxes. Every blank white canvas and an object that you capture thereon requires you to routinely follow the above steps.
The satisfaction that springs from a completed work is an adrinaline rush that you seldom get from other activities. I would encourage you to try it.
